Mark Mitchell 

Mark Mitchell, illustrator for Lil’ Tex Visits the Alamo has illustrated several books for children and teens and for many children's magazines, including Appleseeds, Calliope, Cobblestone, Cricket, Faces, Footsteps and Odyssey(all Carus Publishing) and Pockets (Upper Room.)

This Austin, Texas-based illustrator is also an award-winning children’s book author. His book, Raising La Belle—about the 1686 “ La Salle shipwreck” recovered off the Texas coast in 1997—won the Western Writers of America Spur Award for best juvenile nonfiction book of 2003. It also won the year’s United States Maritime Literature Award.

Mark has been fascinated with the Alamo battle ever since early childhood, when he watched Walt Disney’s “Davy Crockett” on his grandmother’s TV in his native upstate New York . He never guessed that he would someday live in the heart of Texas so close to the Alamo —or illustrate a children’s book that features its unforgettable story.
